Multan Dry Port resumes operations after seven days of strike

MULTAN: The Multan Dry Port Trust has resumed the clearance process after seven days of strike due to newly imposed 0.8  percent cess on import of any consignment.

Importers association and clearing agents along with Multan Dry Port Trust have staged protest against the cess imposed by the government of Punjab on import of any consignment.

Multan Dry Port Trust Chairman Muhammad Ahmad Chugtai told Customs Today that the Multan Dry Port has started operations after successful dialogues with Punjab Finance Minister Ayesha Ghous Pasha on the issue of newly cess imposed. “We have told the Punjab government that importers will not pay dual duty for the clearance of their import consignments,” he said.

Business community have also raised several concerns over the newly imposed taxes by the Punjab government. Multan Dry Port has several consignments waiting for the clearance due to strike at the port.

Chairman MDPT have also directed his staff to clear all pending consignments as soon as possible to ease importers.
