Meat export increases by 17.38% to $156.5m in Jul-Jan

ISLAMABAD: The export of meat products from the country has surged by 17.38 per cent during first seven months of current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

About 45,628 metric tons of meat and meat products worth $156.501 million were exported during the period from July-January, 2015-16 as compared to the exports of 42,054 metric tons valuing $133.351 million of same period last year. According to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, food group export during the period under review decreased by 12.43 percent as it came down from $2.548 billion to $2.231 billion in last seven months.

Meanwhile, food group import in the country during last seven months also shrank by 2.47 percent to $3.084 billion which were recorded at $3.162 billion of corresponding period of last financial year. On month on month basis, export of food group remained on down track in January 2016 by 20.61 percent as compared to same month of the last financial year, the data revealed.
