DUBLIVE: A mechanical cheetah has been created by scientists; it is a robot that can both see and jump over hurdles. This is a new step towards development of robots. According to researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), their creation is first four-legged robot of the world, which is able to run and jump over obstacles all at once.
According to Sangbae Kim, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, said: “A running jump is a truly dynamic behaviour. You have to manage balance and energy, and be able to handle impact after landing. Our robot is specifically designed for those highly dynamic behaviours”.
Kim and his colleagues are looking forward to demonstrate the cheetah’s running jump at the DARPA Robotics Challenge in California in June. A paper on it will be presented by them in July.
