HONG KONG: A new species of legless amphibian resembling a giant earthworm or a snake has been discovered in a remote but threatened area of Cambodian rainforest.
The scientific name Ichthyophis cardamomensis was given to the newly found amphibian, it’s certainly a name most cannot mention so very soon it might have to be given a name like ‘sworm’ or something that can fit in a tiny brain as mine.
The animal looks pretty much like a gigantic earthworm that has the head of a mamba. Its brown and shiny body is about a foot long.
Well, two of this recently discovered amphibian were found earlier on near Vietnam. They were also given a name as I. caecelians.
The strange animal has the stripes that is a feature of snakes, in fact most people confuse some caecilians with snakes. This could partly be the reason behind scientists previously overlooking creatures such as these newly found ones.
Our new species are strikingly similar to other worms and species of snakes, they have a scaleless skin and are of different sizes. Well, that does not mean the scientist could be wrong about finding a new species, the creatures have passed DNA tests that confirms we do not have the in our books.
one of the authors from the German State Museum of Natural History, Peter Geissler voiced out that these newly found Ichtyophiids henceforth are a new speciesas well as the ones discovered earlier on in Indochina.
