Melbourne Airport customs officers uncover illegal gun part imports, man charged after Mildura raid

MELBOURNE: A MAN who is accused of illegally importing handgun parts into the country from overseas has been charged following a raid in Mildura yesterday.

Australian Border Force investigators arrested the 34-year-old man with the support of Victoria Police after detecting a number of suspicious packages addressed to the man in the mail.

ABF officers at Melbourne Airport found seven separate packages addressed to the man that had been labelled as ‘toys’ or ‘model parts’ between November 6 and 9. The packages actually contained firearm parts and handgun frames.

After detecting the packages, sent from the US and Hong Kong, ABF investigators executed a search warrant at the man’s premises where they found a number of handgun parts.

The man has been charged with eight counts of importing handgun parts without permission and one count of being in possession of handgun parts without permission.
