FBR seeks details of tax evasion case against Heena Garments from Export Collectorate

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has asked the authorities concerns of Model Customs Collectorate MCC Exports to furnish complete details of tax evasion case linked with the exporter Heena Garments, as the FBR has decided to contest the case in Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), Islamabad.

The sources informed Customs Today that the Member (Legal) FBR Islamabad Ahmad Dildar through a letter has directed the authorities concerns of MCC Export to provide all details into the case linked with the Heena Garments at earliest. The sources while informing the details of the case informed this scribe that the MCC Export detected the tax evasion case against Heena Garments in which the exporter was allegedly involved in evading the taxes in terms of regulatory duty on exporting the consignment of copper plated wires.

After detecting the tax evasion case in the year 1999, the then authorities concerns of the MCC Exports made the contravention report against the exporter and forwarded the case to the adjudicating authorities. Meanwhile, the exporter Heena Garments moved to Sindh High Court (SHC) against the Customs authorities.

The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II issued the Order-in-Original (ONO) against the exporter Heena Garments in which it stated the exporter to submit regulatory duty in the national exchequer. However; the exporter moved to the Customs Appellate Tribunal against the verdict of Customs Adjudication-II.

“The case is in litigation for last 16 years since the year 1999 and now the FBR authorities have decided to move to apex court against the exporter in order to recover the defaulting government revenue,” sources added.

The sources further disclosed that the FBR authorities has asked for a complete list of the tax evasion cases which are in pending against the different importers/exporters by the authorities concerns of MCC Export.
