SYDNEY: Mercedes-AMG has confirmed the all-new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S performance sedan and wagon will hit Australia from $154,900 and $157,400 respectively.

Entering as the hotly-anticipated flagship models in Mercedes’ hugely successful new C-Class range, both will arrive in showrooms during the third quarter of 2015.

In sedan form, the new C 63 undercuts key rival the BMW M3 by just over $1500, while also being more affordable than its own predecessor.

BMW does not offer an M3-badged rival to the C 63 Estate, although Audi’s RS 4 Avant wagon is more affordable at $151,400. the new C 63 will be offered locally in the top-shelf ‘S’ specification only, meaning 375kW of power instead of the regular model’s 350kW, along with 700Nm of torque instead of 650Nm.

That power comes from AMG’s new 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 – the same unit that powers the only recently revealed AMG GT coupe. Maximum power comes on between 5500 and 6250rpm, while top twist can be accessed between 1750 to 4500rpm.

Matched to AMG’s Speedshift MCT seven-speed sports auto with manual shift mode, and with a rear-wheel-drive setup, the C 63 AMG S boasts a 0-100km/h time of just 4.0 seconds for the sedan and 4.1 seconds for the Estate wagon.

Top speed is an electronically limited 250km/h.

Fuel consumption is listed at 8.6 l/100km for the sedan and 8.7 l/100km for the Estate.

In sedan form, the C 63 weighs in at 1655kg, while the Estate is noteably heavier – but only a fraction slower, remarkably – at 1730kg.

“The C 63 is a performance icon and being uniquely available as a Sedan, Estate and Coupe has offered an unparalleled choice for our customers. The sales figures of the previous generation speak for themselves and we know from customer enquiry that the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Sedan and Estate with their impressive credentials will set a new benchmark not just in driving performance but in compelling value in both equipment and safety,” Mercedes-Benz Australia chief Horst von Sanden said.

“There has really been nothing quite like the previous C 63 and the new C63 S won’t just move the goal posts, it creates a new sports ground.”

Standout kit in the new C 63 S includes AMG Ride Control sports suspension with with electronically controlled shock absorbers, electronic rear locking differential and the AMG Dynamic Select drive programmes.

Dynamic engine mounts are also featured, again connecting the C 63 with the new AMG GT coupe.

Standard equipment:

  • AMG active dynamic engine mount
  • AMG illuminated front door sill panels
