BERLIN: New official images of Mercedes-Benz’s updated ‘GLE-Class’ SUV have surfaced online. The new badge forms part of a move to harmonise the Mercedes series: ‘GL’ represents all SUVs, while the ‘E’ in this model’s name positions it as a ‘large SUV’ alongside the large E-Class series.
The new name’s debut follows the December unveiling of the GLE Coupe, which will soon enter the range as a BMW X6-rivalling companion to the more practical GLE.
As expected, the GLE Coupe’s styling has influenced the look of the newly refreshed GLE, which gains new headlight, grille and bumper styling for 2015.
These new leaked images, although small, reveal that the GLE will also wear a lightly updated rear, with a new tailgate, new lamp internals and a revised bumper.
The SUV’s interior has also been given a light update, with a large tablet-like centre display flanked by tall new vents. Mercedes’ latest steering-wheel design is also featured.
The leaked gallery offers a look a three trim grades in the GLE line-up, likely made up of the GLE 350 (blue), the hero AMG GLE 63 performance SUV (white), and a new plug-in hybrid version believed to be known as the GLE 500e (silver).
