WARSAW: Mercedes-Benz has improved the 2015 E-Class with new internet-enabled telematics, boasting high performance multimedia devices as well as navigation systems.

The world of in-car communications is growing rapidly, and the current gen Mercedes E-Class wasn’t exactly at the forefront of it. That’s set to change with the 2015 model year, as the modern COMAND Online multimedia system in the E-Class will now offer internet functionality – without restrictions when the car is stationary.

While the car is on the move, fans can still use apps such as “Mercedes-Benz radio” and “Service Mercedes-Benz”.

The standard E-Class comes with basic Bluetooth telephony which can now be used with new and fast LTE mobile phone networks. We’re talking about a 4th generation (4G) location-independent wireless broadband connection with download speeds of up to 300 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 75 Mbps.

As for the navigation, users have got the optional Garmin MAP PILOT system which is new to the E-Class. It stores its map data on an SD card and it can be operated via the controller or via voice control – providing a 3D display of terrain and other various buildings. Also, route destinations can now be downloaded via the internet.

In addition, there is a Live Traffic Information service included free of charge for the initial three years after registration. The system works by gathering and transferring high quantities of traffic data via the internet, including “floating car data” technology. Since this feature has data roaming enabled, Live Traffic is available in other EU countries and not just Germany
