MEXICO CITY: Mexico’s industrial production climbed 1 percent in August compared with August 2014, thanks to increases in three of the index’s four components, the National Institute for Statistics and Geography said on the other day.
Utilities expanded 4.4 percent, manufacturing grew 3.4 percent and construction advanced 2.5 percent, while mining output decreased 5.9 percent, the report said.
Non-seasonally adjusted industrial production in August was 0.2 percent higher than the previous month, with utilities and manufacturing each growing 1 percent, while construction retreated 0.6 percent and mining dipped 0.3 percent.
Mexican industrial production grew 1.9 percent in 2014, boosted by increases of 3.7 percent in manufacturing, 1.9 percent in construction and 1.8 percent in utilities, though mining was down 2.3 percent.
The Mexican government expects gross domestic product to expand this year by between 2 percent and 2.8 percent after growing 2.1 percent in 2014.
