LAREDO: A federal judge is hearing a lawsuit by a downtown business owner in Laredo, against officers he alleges used excessive force.

He says on the way back from Mexico, he and two of his friends exchanged words with customs officers at the bridge.

On the way back, video shows the two being detained, that was after shouting profanities toward the bridge at the officers.

Samtani has filed a lawsuit against ten plaintiffs, including five customs officers, and one Laredo police officer.

“In my civil complaint in federal court I’m filing a lawsuit because of excessive force, false imprisonment and violation of my civil rights and constitutional rights”, said Samtani.

The court record shows a letter, a response by the Customs and Border Protection port director.

It reads in part, “Let me assure you that the issues raised by you are being addressed promptly and professionally.”

A first hearing on the complaint was heard in federal court on Friday.
