 Mexico seizes tons of marijuana, firearms

MEXICO CITY: The Mexican Attorney General’s Office seized 981 pounds of marijuana, 18 ounces of methamphetamine, 13 jugs of chemicals and multiple firearms in a house in Matamoros.

The Mexican Army was tipped that a house on Hogar Street in Matamoros had armed people with masks, according to the Mexican Attorney General’s Office.

Soldiers began to approach the masked individuals, prompting one of them to drop a package of marijuana as he attempted to flee, according to the Mexican Attorney General’s Office.

After searching the house on Hogar Street, soldiers found 141 packages of marijuana weighing 981 pounds, 13 20-liter jugs filled with chemicals and six plastic packages containing 18 ounces of methamphetamine, according to the Mexican Attorney General’s Office.

Also found in the house were two machine guns, a Barrett rifle, a 380 mm caliber gun, five grenade launchers, 790,000 rounds of ammunition and a bulletproof vest.

That status of the masked individuals is not clear.
