MEXICO: In order to meet its objective of seeing both public and private investment of $4.5bn made in ports over the next six years, Mexico’s Transport Ministry (SCT) is to give the go ahead for the expansion and upgrading of a number of key port.
These include Veracruz, Tuxpan, Coatzacoalcos, Lázaro Cárdenas, Manzanillo, Mazatlán and Guaymas. The Ministry is also considering building new terminals to boost profits and provide both regional and national development.
Separately, ICTSI has acquired Terminal Marítima de Tuxpan (TMT) from the TMM Group for $55m, leaving it with 100% of the equity. TMT was set up to build and operate the Port of Tuxpan in the Mexican state of Veracruz, which is dominated by its container terminal.
The acquisition of TMT has been justified as a means of increasing and diversifying ICTSI’s operations in Mexico, in particular expanding its presence on the Gulf Coast.
