MEXICO CITY: Mexico’s agricultural exports increased by 25% in August compared with the same month of 2014, reported the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), which explained that, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), international agricultural sales in August totalled 769 million dollars.
The most notable increases were recorded in the export of avocados, with 74.5%, edible fruits, with 41.9%, onions and garlic, with 38.2%, and tomatoes, with 24%, among others.
When it comes to the period between January and August 2015, sales of these products increased by 8.4% compared to 2014, with revenue totalling 8,915.6 million dollars.
From January to July this year, food exports (including agriculture, livestock, fisheries and agro-industry) were worth 16,423 million dollars, up 4.6%.
This entails a surplus in the food trade balance for Mexico of 1,536 million dollars, with also a 9.62% reduction in the volume of imports.
