Mianwali ASO seizes non-duty paid vehicle, dates

MIANWALI: The Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) successfully seized illegally imported foreign origin Noor Zehdi fresh dates 2500 cartons. The ASO authorities also impounded Hino truck which was being used to smuggle the item.

Sources told Customs Today, that Deputy Collector Rana Falik Shair received information that some smugglers are planning to smuggle Noor Zehdi fresh dates. Soon after receiving the information, the ASO constituted a raiding party comprising Chaudhary Muhammad Sardar (superintendent), Ansar Saleemi, Bashir Ahmed (inspectors) Muhammad Amin, Shafqat Mehmood, Muhammad Mansha, Muhammad Iqbal, Hafiz Nasir Ahmed (sepoys).

The raiding party intercepted a vehicle bearing registration no: LES-9772 near Katha Sagral Chowk Khushab city. The vehicle loaded with dates have market value of Rs, 25,00,000 involving customs duty and taxes to the tune of Rs2,91,340.

The raiding party asked the driver namely Muhammad Ijaz son of Abdul Rehman who is a resident of Jhang to produce documents regarding legal import of dates but he failed to produce the documents. Upon his failure goods were seizes under section 168 of the Customs Act 1969.
