Mianwali ASO seizes smuggled items worth Rs 6.8m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Mianwali has seized smuggled items worth Rs 6.884 million involving customs duty and taxes worth Rs 1.48 million during a raid.

Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received information regarding smuggling attempts. He formed an ASO team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Muhammad Umar Bhatti and Inspector Azhar Hussain Jafari, driver Riasat Hussain, Sepoys Faiz Ahmad, Sher Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah.

The team intercepted a Nissan trailer bearing Registration No. GLTB-2540 near Toll Plaza MM Alam Road, Mianwali. The ASO team recovered 4150 kilogramme of prime pre-painted dipped galvanized steel, 3585kgs standard-JISG-3312 grade A, 4560kg standard-JISG 3312, 1660kg sofa cloth, iron board with plug heat, 125kg chemical caboxy methylcellulose, and 150lg chemical sodium benzoate.

The officials asked the driver to produce documents regarding legal import of the goods. The driver who identified himself Amer FKhan said that goods were loaded from Lahore truck stand, but he could not show the documents regarding the legal import.

After his failure, the ASO team seized the goods and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. Collector Zulfiqar Chaudhary has appreciated the performance of the ASO teams, which foiled various smuggled bids in the region.
