Michael lauds KPT on timely completion of eight berths

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael lauded the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on timely completion of reconstruction of eight berths of Karachi Port.

The minister said that such projects will reinforce the overall economy of the nation. Later, the minister, Secretary for Ports and Shipping Khalid Pervez and KPT Vice Chairman Admiral Shafqat Jawed took round of the ports facilities to see on-going ports operations and the work in progress at deep water container port. He was also shown the place of new turning basin and the newly constructed berths.

Senator Kamran Michael was chairing a meeting here at KPT Head Office on Wednesday, which discussed and reviewed the ports’ on-going projects. Federal Secretary for Ports and Shipping Khalid Pervez was also present, there, said that KPT statement. KPT Vice Chairman Admiral Shafqat Jawed briefed the minister on the infrastructure and facilities available at port as well as the projects that the port has so far initiated.

The mega projects like deep water container port, harbor crossing bridge and cargo village drew more attention of the minister. He commended that the KPT chairman on timely completion of berths10-14 and 15 to 17 reconstruction projects. He also appreciated the KPT chairman for upgrading port facilities according to environment, health and safety (EHS) standards which will surely pave way for huge through put of container freight at the deep water container port when its first phase becomes operational in this year.

He said that such projects will strengthen the overall economy of the nation.
