NEW DELHI: Most selfie smartphones in India only focus on adding more megapixels to the front camera along with a Flash, but Micromax has paid attention to the entire device and has come up with a stunning design.

Right from the box to the handset, Micromax has not spared any attempt to woo buyers. The handset looks unique. At first glance, you may either like it or hate it. But after spending a few minutes with the device you will surely start liking it.

Micromax has designed this for “image-conscious women”. The device is available in Mystic Blue and Angelic White colour options. The phone might look a bit girly to many but the design is well-balanced for both.

The metal and faux leather finish is impressive. The phone is quite compact and light-weight. As far as design goes, this might be the best Micromax has ever delivered. The front flash is so well camouflaged that you won’t be able to spot it unless you click a selfie with it turned on.

The dedicated camera button is located on the middle of the right side of the smartphone, which makes it difficult to click selfies when the phone is held horizontally.

The home button (located at the bottom bezels) keeps on glowing for no reasons which creates a bit of a distraction.

Display:

The Micromax Canvas Selfie sports a 4.7-inch 720p HD display at 312ppi with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Overall, the display quality is sharp, bright and buyers shouldn’t have any complaints. The viewing angles and outdoor visibility are decent. Another aspect of the touch display is that it doesn’t attract smudges and fingerprints much.

Performance:

This selfie smartphone has not compromised on the hardware aspect at all. The device runs on a 1.7 GHz octa-core

Mediatek MT6592 processor with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM which can be expanded up to 32 GB. The device scored around 31,000 on AnTuTu Benchmark. Overall, performance will not be an issue at all.

On the software front, the device runs Android 4.4.2 but the interface is heavily tweaked. There is no app drawer and icons are similar to iOS. Overall, the device is made to look good and it does. On the flip side, Micromax has

Included many bloatwares which is frustrating.

Camera:

The Canvas Selfie smartphone offers 13 MP front and rear cameras with a Sony Sensor. Both the cameras offer inbuilt beautification features (Eye enhancement, Face Slimming, Skin smoothening, Remove Oil, fade dark circle, make-up and teeth whitening) which literally changes your look. While clicking selfies, if you put all these beautification features to 100% then you will look completely different and anyone can easily recognise that the selfie has been edited a bit too much. But if you can hit the right combination (of beautification features) then the Canvas Selfie will click stunning selfies. At this price point, this is one of the best selfie smartphones you can buy.

The image quality of both the cameras is good. You can expect some grains in low-lighting conditions but that’s doable. The rear camera comes with dual LED Flash. Overall, you will love this phone for its camera.

Storage & connectivity:

The device offers around 12 GB of usable memory. The storage can be further expanded up to 32 GB. It supports USB OTG and users can connect their pen drives to access content. It offers two SIM card slots micro and nano along with other regular connectivity options.

Verdict:

Micromax Canvas Selfie is good buy at a price of R15, 999, especially for selfie-holics.
