NEW DELHI: Micromax has decided to launch Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Canvas Xpress A99 soon as to take over its rivals in smartphone market. The Canvas Xpress A99 has 4.5 inch display 480 x 854p touchscreen, 1.3GHz quad core MediaTek processor, 1.3GHz quad core MediaTek processor, 5MP main camera, VGA front lens, 1950mAh battery.

Well, it looks like Micromax is ready to iron out that problem by ensuring Canvas Xpress users get Android Lollipop. The smartphone is only about two months old and was originally rolled out with the Android KitKat OS. It’s nice to see the company committing to keeping the shelf life of the device longer than what you’d expect such as an inexpensive handset to boast about.

Of course, Micromax may want to take a leaf out of Intex’s book and just launch its phones with Lollipop or whatever the latest version of Android is available, in the first place. Although there are a dozen or so Canvas series devices, Lollipop has only been announced for the A99 presently. So it’s unclear whether others in the lineup will welcome the software update too.

The Canvas Xpress is a low-end option which has been given all this attention by the manufacturer also because as a recent study revealed, 34% of the total number of smartphones sold in India last year were priced between Rs 5000 and Rs 10000. It’s a very important segment for mobile brands in a market which is witnessing mass migration from feature phones to higher end handsets.

The Micromax Canvas Xpress A99 which was initially launched through Flipkart for Rs 6999, is currently available on Snapdeal for a price of Rs 6399. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be beamed to users over-the-air.
