Minister for Higher Education & Information says KP Govt promise meritocracy in education sector

PESHAWAR: Minister for Higher Education and Information Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani expressed the provincial government preferred merit, transparency and accountability in the province in the matter of education.

He said sizeable budgetary allocations had earmarked for education sector in Annual Development Programme 2014-15.

He was addressing the concluding session of 1st International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering & Management Sciences, which was held in Islamabad, on Wednesday, says an official statement here.

He said, the present government, for the first time in the history of the province, has recruited 8500 educators through an independent and reputed testing organization (NTS) and more educators will be recruited in the coming months to accomplish the target of 100 percent literacy rate in the province.

Keeping in view the importance of women education, he said age limit has been reduced for female to get admission in any degree programme in the universities, he added.

The Minister said merit-based system was ensured and educational institutions and universities are being strengthened.

The Minister said the recommendations of such conference were helpful for government in shaping education policy.

He also congratulated the conference organizing committee particularly, President City University Peshawar, Sabur Seethi and Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal for hosting the event.
