Minister for using food graded packaging material

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yaseen said on Friday that non food graded packaging material was being used for packaging of milk and dairy products, which was hazardous for human health and life.

He expressed these views in a meeting during his visit to a private manufacturing company of food graded packaging products. He said the Food department would not tolerate usage of “blue drum” for milk and dairy products across the province. Those who were playing with lives and health of people would be strictly punished, he added.

The Minister said that presently manufacturers of food packaging companies were working according to their self designed SoPs which was unacceptable. Food department would start soon registration and regulatory mechanism of companies of those manufacturing food packing materials, he added.

He said that in food sector there was huge gap where private and public sector could produce positive results jointly. He said, “In Punjab we can follow international model in collaboration with private sector.”At this occasion Bilal Yasin directed the food department to prepare a comprehensive strategy on registration of these factories and work under public-private partnership. Minister insisted to provide awareness for lay man, local markets and manufacturers for using food graded packaging material only.

CEO of Private Company along his team gave briefing to the Minister. He said that private sector was ready to cooperate with the Food department. Director Punjab Food Authority Lubna Rasheed and Deputy Director Saqib Naseem also accompanied the minister.
