HELSINKI: Ministry of Games is driven by its slogan: “We build games we would love to play. And we love to play games.”
It speaks volumes for the gaming talent in Finland that you don’t need to have a game ready to attract international backing. This is the case for mobile game developer Ministry of Games, which has become the new talk of the town.
‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ goes the famous saying, but in the case of Helsinki-based startup Ministry of Games perhaps it can be judged by its backers. The gaming company is barely a year old and it has just closed a 1.8 million-euro seed funding round lead by some of the biggest names around:
Index Ventures (Skype, Facebook and Finnish gaming sensation Supercell), Initial Capital (Supercell) and Sunstone Capital (a major Nordic gaming stakeholder) have all backed Ministry of Games along with Proxy Ventures (founded by the creators of Supercell and Peak brands) and serial entrepreneur Henric Suuronen. Impressively the first investments were secured before the startup was even officially founded, but Ministry’s CEO and Co-Founder Teppo Soininen refuses to categorise the company as an overnight success:
