Railways should install latest technology at Islamabad Dry Port on priority basis: Assistant Collector Amanat Ali Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways is not showing any interest to built infrastructure of Islamabad Customs Dry Port of international standard, Islamabad Customs reminded many times to Railway Ministry to make secure the boundary wall and to install security cameras around the Dry Port Islamabad but all in vain.

During an exclusive interview with Customs Today Assistant Collector Amanat Ali Khan said that customs authorities held various meetings with Railway officials and told them about the importance of installation of weighbridge and forensic lab to make Islamabad dry port of international standard.

Amanat said that dry port not only achieved its assigned revenue collection target for the month of October FY 2016-17 but also surpassed the target of customs duty of  first four months current  FY2016-17.

He said that Customs Collectorate Islamabad already have been assigned revenue target for all duty/taxes under value of Rs.245 million for the month of November of financial year 2016-17.

Answering to another query he said that most of imported house holds and common items are being imported from China, however, machinery and spare parts came from EU, Japan America and other parts of the world.

He said that Customs staff is strictly following the policy to check all trucks which are loaded with goods and enter in the jurisdiction of dry port. He said “I personally check trucks and containers who enter in the premises of dry port if needed”, he said adding that customs has deputed staff at exit and entrance points of Islamabad Dry Port and customs staff is efficiently working to check proper documentations of imported goods as for vehicles and persons.

Talking about the FBR high ups  he praises the support of Chief Collector North Sarwat Tahira Habib and Collector Dr. Arsalan he said that with the guidance of both officials dry port staff is working efficiently, adding that dry port have advised to make behavior with business community more polite and follow the policy to facilitate traders according to customs rules.

He said that during financial year October 2016-17 the dry port handled 211 containers and 217 GDs were filed and processed here, he said that during the current month dry port handled goods worth Rs.1040 million and collected revenue in shape of customs duty amounting to Rs.262 million, the target was given for revenue collection for same month was Rs225 million in this way dry port staff got surplus revenue collection in month of October 2016-17 and showed good performance.

Amanat Ali said that during financial year September 2016-17 the dry port handled 202 containers and 231 GDs were filed here, he said that during same month dry port did business of imported value amounting Rs.1329 million as for as collected revenue through Customs Duty was amounting Rs.289 millions, the target was given for revenue collection for same month was Rs.290 million.

He told that during financial year August 2016-17 the dry port handled 257 containers and 264 GDs were filed and processed here at Islamabad dry port, he adding that during same month dry port earn business of imported value amounting Rs.1248 million as for as collected revenue through Customs Duty was amounting Rs.276 millions.

He said that during financial year July 2016-17 the dry port handled 184 containers and 194 GD received and processed, he adding that during same month Islamabad dry port did business with imported value amounting Rs.838 million and collected revenue through customs duty amounting Rs.159 millions, the target was given for revenue collection for same month was Rs119 million.
