When officers of customs department made cases and seized goods within port premises, they faced resistance from the customs clearing officers so the high-ups must acted upon the direction issued by Supreme Court and National Accountability Bureau to eliminate the evil lords from the Customs Department.

The customs high-ups must direct the customs staff to keep close eye on import of goods because the Green Channel was developed in order to facilitate the high-level genuine importers.

The advocate said that due to misuse of Green Channel, which was made for facilitation of import, the importers are shifting businesses from Pakistan to other countries.

It’s very much possible for customs department to eradicate corruption in Green Channel facility but due to corruption in Green Channel service the importers had been greatly discouraged which is very bad for growth of economy of Pakistan, he added.

The lawyer said that the customs high-ups must work for better management of customs officers in order to redevelop the trust of importers upon Green Channel facility.

FBR Chairperson Rukhsana Yasmeen needs to seriously defuse the situation by arresting the customs officers involved in causing loss of billions to the customs exchequer and bring those to lime light that facilitated the fraud with the customs department.

The Green Channel facility could be monitored by the customs high-ups and it’s very mush possible to track the record of consignments got cleared during last few years.

The lawyer added that all the risks of corruption in Green Channel facility must be removed in order to eliminate the risk of misusing Green channel facility, causing losses to the exchequer.

The customs high-ups must act to recover the billions of rupees revenue lost due to fraud in the Green Channel facility and redevelop the trust of genuine importers who had been greatly discouraged due to fraud schemes detected at Ports during clearance of contraband goods  from green channel facility.

The advocate further stressed that the criminal silence of Customs high-ups led the Chief Justice to take notice of the corruption after which the NAB acted upon the direction issued by Supreme court to eliminate the risk of billions of rupees losses to the national exchequer.
