Mobile phones imports reach $ 245.203m in four months

ISLAMABAD: Mobile phones imports have reached US $ 245.203 million during first four months of this year, showing a phenomenal growth of 23.71 per cent as compared to same period last year.

Mobile phones imports during same period (July-October) of 2016-17 were US $ 198.205 million. Mobile phone imports in October 2017 which were US $ 54.709 million, decreased by 10.9 per cent than US $ 61.403 million imports in September 2017, but increased by 5.95 per cent as compared to US $ 51.639 per cent in October 2016.

The latest data issued by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday revealed that overall telecom imports saw increase of over 19 per cent during July-October 2017 as compared to the same period of last year.

Total imports were recorded at US $ 450.165 million during this period as compared to US $ 378.194 million in July-October 2016. Telecom imports remained US $ 116.690 million and registered 13.53 per cent growth as compared to US $ 102.781 million during September 2017.

Other telecom apparatus import also witnessed growth of over 13.87 per cent in July-October 2017 as it stood at US $ 204.962 million against US $ 179.989 million during same period of last year.

When compared to September 2017, other telecom apparatus imports registered over 49 per cent growth as these were worth US $ 61.981 million as compared to US $ 41.378 million in September 2017.
