ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) has obtained approval from the competent authority for the appointment of commercial attaché in the Pakistani embassies abroad. The prime minister has approved a summary forwarded by the MoC and referred it back to the ministry.
The MoC had moved a summary for hiring of commercial attaché in view of completion of tenure of the sitting commercial attaché as well as to replace weak-performing officers with new and energetic trade officers. Moreover, several posts of commercial attaché were also vacant.
Around 55 posts of commercial attaché are present with the Pakistani High Commissions and embassies in 36 countries, including Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech republic, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates (UAE), United Kingdom, and USA.
The MoC in the light of approved summary is likely to call for applications from the interested candidates by next month. Candidates from both the public and private sectors can apply for the post, which are likely to be advertised in coming weeks.
As per laid down procedure, the eligible candidates will be given written tests, which may be conducted by LUMS, NTS or NUST and candidates will have to secure 60% marks to get promoted to the interview phase. Then a selection board of interview panel will conduct interviews of the short-listed candidates on the basis of their success in written test prior to announcing the final results.
