Model customs Collectorate recovers 189,000 UAE Dirham from Dubai-bound passenger

DUBAI: Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Preventive and Airport Security Force (ASF) on Tuesday foiled a currency smuggling bid and recovered 189,000 UAE Dirham from a Dubai-bound passenger.

According to the details, the staff of Customs preventive and ASF intercepted a person named Kamran Khan at the international departure of Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, who was flying to Dubai via Emirates Airlines EK607.

The person was intercepted on the information that he was carrying foreign currency beyond the authorized limit.

“On body search, the staff recovered 189,000 UAE Dirham ($51,030), which was concealed in under-garment and shoes,” said Irfan Ali, Senior Preventive Officer.

Under the law a passenger is allowed to carry $10,000 on condition that the amount should be declared at the departure.

The person has been arrested and the customs authorities initiated further legal proceedings.

Two days earlier, the preventive staff at the international arrival hall of the airport recovered 1.2 kilogram gold bar from a passenger, who arrived from Dubai.
