Modern scanners will be installed at Karachi airport to curb smuggling

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has asked the Model Customs Collectorate Preventive, Karachi to take measures to curb smuggling at Jinnah International Airport.

Following he directions, the collector convened a meeting of the officers at his office in which it was decided that the latest technology scanners would be installed at the arrival and departure parts of the airport in order to curb smuggling of contraband items and foreign currency, officials said, adding that the scanners would scan the human body thoroughly.

They further informed this scribe that the scanners would be import from Japan and would be installed at airport within a month.

The officials further said that 3 to 4 more scanners would be installed at arrival and departure to avoid any transportation of contraband items from airport.

The customs authorities have already decided to increase the “Risk-Profiling” portfolio, which will enable the customs authorities to check the luggage of celebrities also as per the SOPs.
