LAHORE: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has granted post-arrest bail to an Omani citizen who was arrested in a money laundering case from Lahore airport.
Earlier, the court approved 14 days judicial remand of the accused booked by the customs authorities from Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore while making an attempt to smuggle 50,000 UAE dirham and 25,000 Omani riyals worth Rs 81 million.
He was produced before the court of Chaudhary Ameer Muhammad Khan who approved his physical remand for two days. After completion of physical remand, the customs investigation team again presented him before the court where he was sent on judicial remand for further prosecution.
On Tuesday, the court heard the bail plea of and granted him bail against surety bonds of Rs 200,000. Lawyers of the accused party filed a petition of his post arrest bail that the court has granted on Tuesday after listening arguments from counsels for customs and accused person. The accused was traveling from Lahore to Muscat on flight no.344.
According to Pakistani law, an amount equal to only $10,000 can be carry by a passenger while traveling out of Pakistan.
