More than 20% work of CM rural roads programme completed

MULTAN: More than 20 per cent development work on the second phase of Punjab Chief Minister’s rural roads programme has been completed as 14 rural roads of Multan division were selected under the programme.

Highway Department Superintendent Engineer Khawar Bhutta told APP on Monday that the rehabilitation work on 14 rural roads of Multan division was in progress with a brisk pace, adding that about Rs1800 million would be spent on these roads. He said that funds were available for the project and the work would be completed by April-2016.

The SE said that 10 roads would be rehabilitated while four roads would be constructed a new under the programme and the project would be completed within six months, Bhutta added. He said that total length of the 14 roads was 185km in which 156km length of rehabilitated roads and 29km length of four new roads included.

Bhutta said that sub-base at 45 kilometres and base at 20 kilometres had so far been completed. The purpose of maintenance of the rural roads was to make an easy access of transportation from nearby villages to the city. He said the provincial government was determined to rehabilitate all rural roads before 2018, he concluded.
