More than 66 agreements, MoUs signed in ICBOP-2017

LAHORE: International Conference on Business Opportunities in Punjab-2017 and Expo concluded here on Wednesday with signing of more than 66 agreements and MoUs worth billions of dollars international investment in Punjab, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Finance Minister Dr Ayesha Ghous Pasha, Provincial Ministers, Diplomats, Consul Generals of China and Turkey, members of the parliament, Chief Secretary, hundreds of investors from 26 countries of the world, and local traders and industrialists attended the mega event.

The event proved success from every respect as more than 400 investors from 26 countries have been gathered under one roof and showing confidence over the policies and environment for doing business, termed Punjab as heaven for investment.

Chief Minister lauded the efforts made by Pakistan’s ambassador to China, Turkey and other countries, ambassador of China to Pakistan, ambassador of Turkey to Pakistan, Chinese and Turkish Consul Generals, concerned Provincial Ministers, Chief Secretary, Chairman P&D, secretaries of the concerned departments and officials of Punjab Board of Investment & Trade, for successful holding of this seminar. He said that they have jointly worked like a team to make this seminar a success.

During the event, Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held separate meetings with Chief Executive Officers and high officials of foreign investment companies. Chief Minister also took a round of the exhibition and visited different stalls. He took great interest in the products displayed at the stalls.

The investors from China, France, Turkey, Germany, Japan, South Korea, UK and other countries agreed to invest in different sectors in the Punjab. They showed deep interest in investment in energy, infrastructure, transport, healthcare, low income housing schemes, industry and other sectors, and thanked the Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for providing favorable atmosphere for investment in the province.

They said that the environment for investment in the Punjab is very favorable; and added that they would take full benefit of these opportunities. The delegations of foreign investors said that they have been deeply impressed with the transparent policy of investment of the Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. They said that speed with which projects are being completed in the Punjab, is unique and unparalleled.

Overall, all the delegates expressed confidence in the business environment in Punjab and wished to invest in key sectors. The seminar’s sessions included Digital Punjab Initiatives by Punjab Information Technology Board, manufacturing carpets by All Pakistan Carpet Manufacturing Association, infrastructure and special economic zones by

PIEDMC/FIEDMC/C&W/LDA, enabled business climate in Punjab by WBG & ICRU (P&D), minerals rich Punjab by Mines & Minerals Department, water investment climate and regime by Punjab Saaf Pani, disruptive and transformational business economic zones by Shared Services Forum, Public Private Partnership Opportunities in Punjab by PPP Cell (P&D) were also held.
