LONDON: The Trade Representative of Russia in Morocco, Vyacheslav Khroliv reported that Russian imports of Moroccan vegetables to the Russian market have doubled during the first quarter of this year compared to the same period of 2015, and that the growth of the Kingdom’s fruit and vegetable exports to Russia may reach 40% by the end of the year.
Khroliv said: “The volume of imports rose significantly during the first quarter; Moroccan vegetable shipments to Russia have doubled, and fruit shipments have also increased during the first three months of this year.”
The Russian trade representative stated that “Moroccans have the opportunity to benefit from the impact of the sanctions. In 2014, vegetable imports already grew by 20-25% compared to the previous year. In 2015, imports recorded a slight decrease, but then growth resumed because importers have started opening new markets in Pakistan, Vietnam and China.” The Russian official noted that Morocco has been working hard to improve the quality of its products and “although they have raised their prices, quality is always in demand for Russian importers.”
