Morocco’s inflation rate jumps to 1.6% in 2016

RABAT: The annual rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), indicating inflation, rose to 1.6% in 2016, according to Morocco’s High Commission for Planning (HCP), based in Rabat. In an information note provided by the HCP, the increase referred to the index of food products (+ 2.7%) and non-food products (+ 0.7%). Changes recorded with regard to non-food products ranged from a decrease of 0.2% for communication, to a 2.5% increase for restaurants and hotels, the HCP pointed out.

Interpreting the information according to cities, the most important increases in the annual CPI were recorded in Al-Hoceima (2.%), Settat (+ 2.1%), Beni-Mellal (+ 2%), Agadir, Dakhla, Meknes and Rabat (+ 1.9%) and Tangier (+ 1.8%). The lowest increases were posted in Oujda and Safi (+ 1 pc), Laayoune and Kénitra (+ 1.2 %), Guelmim (+ 1.3 %) and Casablanca (+ 1.4 %), according to the same source.
