NEW YORK: Among the many reports on a reveal of a revamped Apple TV is a redesign of the set-top boxes remote.

A report from TechCrunch offers new details on how the remote might function, including motion sensors offering controls similar to the Nintendo’s Wii video game controller.

The device is expected to be bigger and thicker than the current remote, and feature physical buttons, a touchpad at the top, and a microphone to issue voice commands through Siri.

The addition of motion controls to the Apple TV remote could open the door for the introduction of games to the Apple TV platform. The set-top box currently hosts TV shows, movies and podcasts. Including games also puts Apple TV on par with rival devices including the Roku and Amazon’s Fire TV.

Buzz surrounding Apple TV has picked up since Apple confirmed it will host an event September 9. Apple will most likely reveal the next iPhone as well as the upgraded Apple TV, which is reported to run on mobile operating system iOS 9 and feature a faster processor.
