NEW YORK: The Moto 360 holds a special place in the short smartwatch history books.
It was the first major release to champion the circular watch face, something that has been vindicated since by most of their fellow manufacturers following their example; most notably Samsung this week.
So the arrival of a second generation 360 holds a lot of anticipation and expectation – always a dangerous combination in the ever-evolving world of technology trends.
At IFA, the Moto 360 Collection has been announced, and wisely it appears to be sticking to the formula that has already brought the 360 brand success.
The name suggests more than one smartwatch, and that is indeed the case, with Motorola revealing the 360 now comes in three sizes; two for men and one for women. The men’s measure in at 42mm and 46mm, while the women’s is also 42 but comes with a narrower 16mm strap. Plus there’s a Sport version with a silicone strap.
This is a smart step given the original 360 was quite bulky to wear, so a range of options is likely to add appeal.
Though the need to define them by gender remains questionable.
Nonetheless, there is now a lot of ways to make the 360 on your wrist different beyond just changing the wrist band. Via Motorola’s customisation site, Moto Maker, users will be able to choose from three different bezel colours to frame the watch.
This is very good on a personalisation front, with the idea being that what’s on your wrist is entirely decided by you.
