Motorcycles production up 24.78% in Q1

ISLAMABAD: Production of motorcycles during first quarter of the year 2017-18 increased by 24.78 per cent while on month on month basis it also posted an increase of 17.59 per cent.

During the period under review, the motorcycles production rose to 693,709 units in Jul-Sept (2017-18) from 555,952 units in first quarter of the year 2016-17. The production of jeeps and cars in the country increased by 31.37 per cent during first quarter (July-September) of 2017-18 compared to same period of the preceding year.

During first quarter of current fiscal year, 57,642 units of cars and jeeps were produced in the country compared to the production of 43,878 units during the period Jul-Sept (2016-17), according to latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). On month-on-month basis, the production of cars and jeeps by various brands in the country registered 27.09 per cent increase as it rose to 18,444 units in September 2017 from 14,513 units in September 2016.

Similarly, the production of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) also increased to 7,178 units from 7,018 units in July-September (2016-17), showing an increase of 2.28 per cent while on months on month basis the production rose to 2,352 units in September 2017 from 2,230 units, showing an increase of 5.47 per cent.

During first three months of current fiscal year, 15,618 units of tractors were produced in the country compared to the production of 7,237 units in same period of last year, thus showing a sharp increase of 115.81 per cent.

On month-on-month basis, the tractors’ production increased by 117.61 per cent as it rose to 5,336 units in September 2017 from 2,336 units in same month of 2016.

Similarly, production of trucks also posted increase of 36.37 per cent to 2,452 units in Jul-Sept 2017-18 from 1,798 units in same period of last year while on month on month basis, the production of trucks increased by 52.5 per cent from 600 units in September 2016 to 915 units in same period of current year.

Production of buses however registered decrease of 20.97 per cent which went down to 294 units in Jul-Sept 2017-18 from 372 units in same period of last year while on months on month basis the buses’ production also declined by 20.34 per cent as it decreased to 94 units in September 2017 from 118 units in September 2016.
