NEW DELHI: Motorola president Rick Osterloh hinted about the Moto X 3G’s release in the tech company’s #AskRickO Twitter Q&A session held on March 25. When asked if the next Moto X would follow its predecessors’ time frame, the executive said that “we try to stay on a roughly annual cycle for all of our products including Moto X.”

The first Moto X version was launched in August 2013, with its successor released in September 2014. Following this pattern of Motorola’s yearly release cycle of their latest products, the handset’s third gen could come out in August or September, The Christian Today noted.

Motorola, together with its partner Qualcomm, announced early this year that most of the tech giant’s upcoming devices will be equipped by the latest Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm, the mobile technology company’s site said in a press release.

“Motorola Mobility and Qualcomm have a long history of cooperating to create amazing mobile experiences,” Osterloh said, as reported by Qualcomm’s official page. “The Snapdragon 810 processor will enable us to push the boundaries even further so we can continue delighting our customers with devices that give them new choices.”

However, it should be noted that it wasn’t revealed yet whether the Moto X 3G would be powered by the processor. The Christian Today wrote that there are some claims saying that the 810 processors have overheating issues “without proper CPU handling.” If this is the case, Motorola’s upcoming handset could be better equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 815 or 820 processors instead.

We previously reported from TechnoBuffalo that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 is expected to make use of a new 64-bit CPU core called Kryo. According to TechnoBuffalo, the chip will reportedly utilize “a leading edge FinFET process.” The processor could also pave way for Motorola’s “cognitive computing” technology with a new platform called Zeroth.

“For example, the new chip might make it possible to recognize different facial expressions using the phone’s camera. It could also improve security by taking other contextual data into consideration, again by using the sensors in your device,” TechnoBuffalo wrote.

Not much is known about the Moto X 3G, but CNET reported that the device won’t come with a fingerprint scanner. Osterloh said at a press event near the Mobile World Congress trade show that “he wasn’t a fan” of the trendy sensor.

The last time Motorola used fingerprint readers was in 2011 for the Motorola Atrix, Gospel Herald wrote. The feature, however, came with issues and was consequently removed from all future handsets.
