MUMBAI: Mozilla launched a limited version of Firefox last year which could support web-based virtual reality apps and could be experienced through the Oculus Rift. Mozilla is now bringing this experience on the web albeit only on the Nightly or Developer builds.

According to TechCrunch, Mozilla’s WebVR is an experimental API that makes it easier to connect the browser to virtual reality headsets. As of now, the new Firefox builds only work with the Oculus Rift but the company has plans to add built-in support for Linux, Firefox for Android and Google’s Cardboard.

The concept to have virtual reality in any website is very impressive. This will involve synchronizing head movements with the screen. The report adds that the team at Mozilla believes that WebVR will enhance the web experience, as a whole. Those downloading Firefox Nightly or Developer Edition builds will have to download a separate add-on in order for their Oculus Rift headsets to work.

Earlier Mozilla had released a new website MozVR.com, as part of Firefox’s 10-year anniversary, which was compatible with the Oculus Rift VR headset. Calling it, “A VR website about VR websites,” Mozilla said that MozVR would be a platform to share experimental VR Web experiences.

Now it seems, Mozilla has started taking some concrete steps to bring the Virtual-reality experience to the web.
