MPs for making 1000 stitching units functional

ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Commerce and Textile Industry has expressed concerns on some 1000 non-functional stitching units in the country.

The meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce and Textile, which was held here at the parliament house under the chairmanship of Senator Shibili Faraz, directed the Ministry of Commerce and Textile to take appropriate measures to make these industrial stitching units functional as early as possible through providing them required support.

The Committee also directed the Ministry of Commerce and Textile to provide detailed expenditures on different ongoing projects in the textile industry for the betterment of the textile industry.

The Committee observed that due to lack of proper mechanism and planning public money is being wasted and it is not being utilized properly. The Committee directed to the Ministry of Commerce and Textile to take care in spending the expenditures allocated for the improvement and development of the textile industry. The Committee also asked the Ministry to take special care in planning and execution of projects.

Chairman of the Committee Senator Shibli Faraz, while commenting on the importance of Free Trade Agreements with other countries, said that these should be signed considering Pakistan’s interest. He said only experts in the field of trade and commerce should be deputed as commercial attaches in Pakistani’s embassies abroad.
