KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has adjourned the hearing of a constitutional petition filed by M/s Reliance Steel, seeking release of its consignment seized by customs authorities due to alleged mis-declaration. A two-member bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Omer Sial, was hearing the petition.
Earlier, counsel for the petitioner submitted that it is engaged in the lawful business and fulfills all the liabilities properly. The petitioner imported colour coated steel sheets in coils of prime grade of thickness 0.35-0.80mm x 1000-1250mm from China and filed goods declaration (GD) according to law.
The counsel argued that instead of filing goods declaration according to law, the customs authorities seized the consignment and allegation was fixed that the said consignment comprising secondary galvanized steel coils under the garb of primary.
Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, Collector of Customs Appraisement East, Customs Collectorate as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court to direct them to release its consignment immediately and restrain them from taking any coercive action against the petitioner till final order in this petition.
