MTBA demands FBR to appoint Commissioner Appeals on priority basis for timely proceedings of appeals

MULTAN: Multan Tax Bar Association (MTBA) demands Federal Board of Revenue to appoint Commissioner (Appeal-I) immediately for timely proceeding of pending appeals and stay matters of the Regional Tax Office Multan taxpayers.

The Executive Body of Multan Tax Bar Association raised attention towards ta matter of utmost importance under the leadership of President Malik Khadim Hussain and General Secretary Muhammad Imran Ghazi about vacant position of Commissioner (Appeals-I) Inland Revenue, Multan which is non-functional since October 29, 2023 after the retirement of Mr. Muhammad Saleem CIR(Appeals-I).

Multan Tax Bar Association (MTBA) informed Chairman Federal Board of Revenue through letter that absence of Commissioner (Appeals-I) for hearing of appeal cases relating to RTO Multan has created hardship for the taxpayers and tax collection leading to delay in the resolution of appeal matters resulting  aggregate pendency of appeals particularly in cases involving higher revenues.

Multan Tax Bar Association has stressed out on the importance of a fully functional and well-staffed tax administration to ensure the smooth functioning of the tax dispute resolving system. Therefore, Multan Tax Bar Association needs immediate attention of FBR to this matter and urged them to expedite the appointment of a regular Commissioner (Appeals-I) Inland Revenue at RTO, Multan, at the earliest possible opportunity.

Timely and efficient resolution of tax-related matters is crucial for fostering an encouraging environment for businesses and taxpayers alike. Members of Multan Tax Bar Association are confident about prompt action in this regard will not only address the concerns of taxpayers but also contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the tax dispute resolving administration and early hearing of urgent matters particularly stay issues.

The Federal Board of Revenue will ensure the appointment of a Commissioner (Appeals-I) Inland Revenue in this regard as soon as possible for facilitation of taxpayers without further delay.
