MTBA seeks SOP implementation at RTO Multan to address inconsistencies in taxpayer information change

MULTAN: The Multan Tax Bar Association has raised concerns regarding the absence of a clear mechanism or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) at the Regional Tax Office (RTO) Multan for handling changes to taxpayers’ personal information, particularly in cases of lost passwords. The Association has highlighted that staff at the National Tax Number (NTN) Cell frequently alter procedures, resulting in inconsistency and confusion.

According to members of the Multan Tax Bar Association, the lack of a standardized process has led to significant challenges for both taxpayers and their representatives.

Discrimination has also been reported in handling such requests, with priority given to those who physically visit the office. In contrast, applications submitted through power of attorney often face unnecessary delays.

The Bar members expressed frustration at the unequal treatment, noting that this behavior undermines the professionalism of advocacy and may be influenced by improper motives.

The Multan Tax Bar Association has formally requested an investigation into the matter, urging the Chief Commissioner to address the issue. They are calling for the development and implementation of a uniform SOP to ensure that all taxpayers, regardless of how they submit their requests, are treated fairly and consistently.

The Association hopes that prompt action will be taken to restore integrity, transparency, and efficiency in the services provided by the RTO Multan, benefiting taxpayers and their legal representatives alike.
