Citizen challenges tax notice of Rs 707,579 in SHC

KARACHI: A citizen, Muhammad Rafique, has moved the SHC challenging notice of Rs 707,579 in respect of income support levy tax for year 2013 issued by tax authorities.

In his constitutional petition, the counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is regularly paying income tax, sales tax and others allied taxes to the government and has good reputation in open market.

According to the petitioner, staff of the tax authorities issued demand notice dated 23/11/16 to the petitioner for payment of income support levy for the period during 30/06/2013 under the income support levy act 2013 illegal, mala fide and arbitrary.

Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Commissioner Inland Revenue E&C Unit-03 Zone-01 Large Taxpayer Unit-II and Inland Revenue Officer E&C Unit-03 Zone-01 Large Taxpayer Unit-II as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court may declare set aside impugned demand notice and restrain the respondents from taking any coercive action against the petitioner.
