MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs s Appraisement is going to introduce importers and exporters profiling system which will provide them swift clearance of shipments without any hurdle and it will encourage them to prefer Multan Dry Port to clear their consignments.

This was stated by Collector Appraisement Saima Shahzad while talking exclusively to Customs Today about the future strategy. She said Multan Dry Port is one of the few dry ports in the country which is offering appropriate facilities to importers/exporters of the region and as it is the only dry port in the location of South Punjab for import clearances of consignments. Multan Dry Port is providing an opportunity of swift clearance of consignments and same day clearance for importers and exporters preferred to clear their shipments. Multan Dry Port will provide business friendly environment through timely clearance of their import and export shipments, she added.

Ms. Saima asked business community to take benefit from export clearance facility of Sadiqabad Dry Port for the clearance of their export batches to save their time and Sadiqabad export terminal will also enhance growth in exports from the area.

Saima Shahzad told that importers and exporters are not availing the services of Multan Dry Port due to their certain issues and we will gradually resolve their issues to promote clearance activity at port and timely clearance of the consignments is our motto.

She said the department ensured exporters and importers of South Punjab that their consignments will be handled with care and offered them fast track clearance of shipments. Customs clearance procedure should be exercised every time according to law for clearance of any consignments properly through better management. ‘We are trying our best to deliver extraordinary services for the clearance of shipments at the Multan Dry Port and clearing every consignments of importer without any delay on priority basis,’ she added.

She told few local manufacturers are taking benefits from our services due to swift clearance of their consignments without any complications. Some anti-development elements have created wrong perceptions about Multan Dry port due to which clients avoid clearance from Multan Dry port.

Asking the question about low volume of export from Multan Dry port, he stated that after assuming charge of Collector Appraisement she is trying to enhance volume of import clearances from Multan Dry Port by removing hurdles and inviting local importers for availing facilities of local Dry Port.

The Collector expressed that high freight charges for the import consignments are also one of the factors due to which importers mostly ignored Multan Dry port and majority of shipments cleared from Karachi.
