Multan ASO confiscates smuggled items, vehicles worth Rs 89m in Oct.

MULTAN: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized smuggled items and vehicles worth Rs 89.17 million during October.

According to the details, ASO conducted various anti-smuggling raids against non-customs paid vehicles and contraband goods including Iranian petroleum products, cell phones, fabric and other items.

The officials impounded 16 non-duty paid smuggled vehicles including, Toyota Hilux Surf, Toyota Pajero, Toyota Land Cruisers, Toyota Vitz, Hino Truck and other luxury cars from different areas Sher Shah Bypass road, Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan. The value of impounded vehicles is estimated at Rs 51.2 million.

Smuggled blankets, gutka, medicine and 85 bundles of silk cloth were also confiscated during the said period, besides forming 27 various seizure cases.

The customs has also lodged FIR against the people involved in violating laws under Customs Act, 1969 and their cases are under trial in Customs Adjudications.

Multan Customs Collector Sarfraz Ahmad Warraich reiterated its commitment to curb the menace of smuggling in the region in order to save the national exchequer.

He stated that ASO showed exceptional performance during last few months as latest techniques have been adopted against smugglers.
