MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization has thwarted a smuggling attempt by recovering worth Rs26 million of non-customs paid light traffic vehicles (LTV) tyres in their successful action.
Collector Customs Preventive Muhammad Saleem has directed Anti-Smuggling Organization to step up the crackdown against smuggled goods to curb smuggling in the South Punjab and anti-smuggling squad has accelerated actions in the jurisdiction. Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling enhanced the monitoring and patrolling of suspected routes in the territory for curbing menace of smuggled goods. Deputy Collector Maqbool Ahmad Baloch received credible information from their source that huge quantity of smuggled goods will be transported from jurisdiction.
Multan Customs formed special anti-smuggling teams which comprised of Inspector Asif Rafique Sandhu and others to take stern action against smuggled goods.
Multan Customs recovered a suspected truck which was loaded with huge quantity of light traffic vehicle (LTV) tyres from Dera Ghazi Khan in their action. Anti-Smuggling squad recovered 2272 different LTV tyres from Taunsa Barrage and seized them.
Said Light Traffic Vehicle (LTV) tyres were loaded on the Truck of Goods Company and recovered tyres were belong to different brands of worth Rs.25.9 million in their action
Multan Customs anti-smuggling squad asked driver to produce legal documents but they were failed to produce it. Driver told Anti-Smuggling Staff that he was coming from Quetta and his final destination was Faisalabad.
Customs teams seized all recovered tyres and vehicle under Customs Act 1969 after framing seizure report. Further Investigations were still under way.
