MULTAN: In a decisive action against smuggling, Collectorate of Customs has destroyed contraband goods worth Rs180 million during a ceremony at the dry port.
Despite facing limited resources, the Collectorate has been actively working within its jurisdiction to combat smuggling and prevent the transportation of banned goods.
The destruction marked the culmination of legal proceedings concerning goods seized over the past two years. The event was attended by a distinguished delegation, including Collector of Customs Imran Sajjad Bukhari, Additional Director of Customs Intelligence Dr. Ali Mumtaz, Deputy Director of Customs Intelligence Umair Zahid, Deputy Collector of Customs Maryam Jamila, and Assistant Collector of Customs Zaigham Ali. A local magistrate was also present to ensure transparency and proper documentation of the proceedings.

This operation underscores the customs authorities’ commitment to preventing illegal goods from entering the market and mitigating the negative economic impacts associated with smuggling.
Notably, issues have been raised regarding the pilfering and replacement of Chinese salt, betel nuts, and other goods across various warehouses in the country, indicating broader challenges in managing smuggled goods.
Collector of Customs Imran Sajjad Bukhari reaffirmed the department’s dedication to tackling illegal trade practices, emphasizing that such operations are crucial for maintaining the integrity of market practices and protecting the economy from the adverse effects of smuggling. The customs department continues to prioritize stringent measures against illegal activities to safeguard national interests.
