MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Multan office is facing acute shortage of staff for carrying anti-smuggling activities.
Assistant Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Muhammad Ali Asif said this, while talking to Customs Today in his office. He said that his department needed more staff for the operational activities to curb smuggling in the region of South Punjab and to perform administrative work.
“Inclusion of fresh blood in Customs Intelligence and Investigation will increase the strength of the department during anti-smuggling crackdown in the widespread area,” he believed.
The Assistant Director said that some members of existing staff are too old to chase the smugglers. He revealed that the Multan office has just 39-member field staffs that have to cover the whole southern Punjab.
Muhammad Ali Asif said that to curtail smuggling in the region from Baluchistan and Sindh, the Multan Customs Intelligence office needed more staff for performing of field operation. He informed Customs today that induction of new staff members in Customs Intelligence and Investigation will enhance anti-smuggling performance.
However, all efforts have been done to curb smuggling in the region and recruitment will increase the performance as well as capability of department, he added.
