MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs authorities deputed at Multan International Airport foiled a bid to smuggle foreign currency during strict vigilance.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Muhammad Saleem has directed Deputy Collector Maqbool Ahmad Baloch to tighten scrutiny at the Multan International Airport and thwart any attempt of smuggling and money laundering.
Customs Preventive enhanced monitoring of the passengers good to avoid any smuggling and money laundering. Multan Customs received credible information that smuggling attempt from passenger could be made through Multan International Airport.
Customs staff deputed at Multan International Airport was alerted to remain vigilance during examination of goods and they recovered almost 117355 United Arab Emirate dirham during examination of luggage with the assistance of Airport Security Force (ASF) from passenger Abdul Aleem Rashid resident of Multan.
Customs teams found that said passenger has declared UAE dirhams 10,000 at currency declaration counter. But Customs Preventive teams found his currency declaration form doubtful and they further examined luggage of passenger with the assistance of Airport Security Force which led to recovery of almost UAE 117,355 Dirham (Approx equivalent US$31,000).
Said passenger was going to Sharjah from Multan International Airport through Pakistan International Airlines flight no: PK. 293.
Accused was taken into custody by Customs Staff for smuggling of foreign currency and seized recovered foreign currency under Customs act 1969 and started investigations about smuggling. Further investigations are still under process.
