MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has seized huge quantity of non-customs paid foreign origin cloths, tyres and miscellaneous goods near M-5 Motorway. The net worth of seized goods was almost Rs.41.5 million and value of trailer was also almost Rs10 million.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs Enforcement Multan received credible information that smuggled goods will be transported from Multan to Faisalabad and he alerted anti-smuggling field staff after receiving said information. Anti-Smuggling Squad of Multan Customs staff was directed to thwart any smuggling attempt through strict vigilance. Assistant Collector Habib-Ur-Rehman formed special team of Anti-smuggling squad to intercept smuggled goods and Customs team was comprised of Inspector Arshad Nadeem, Rana Mujtaba, Javed Bhatti and others to take action against smuggled goods.
Multan Customs Anti-smuggling staff enhanced the patrolling and monitoring of suspected routes to intercept non-duty goods. During patrolling of suspected routes customs anti-smuggling staff intercepted a truck bearing registration number of E-7056 at Multan rest area motorway M-5.
The truck was loaded with 3150 women suiting, 2478 kilograms of polyester gents suiting /woven shirting cloth,1200 kilograms of sofa cloth, polyester ladies printed fabric of assorted colors,400 tyres of LTV various brands and sizes, cigarette filter paper which was loaded with other goods.
The intercepted foreign goods were Iran Origin. Smuggled goods were packed in different sacks. The net weight of said fabric cloth was almost 9448 kilograms. Anti-Smuggling squad teams asked driver to produce import documents of said goods to justify their possession.
Driver of said trailer failed to produce any legal documents of the goods and customs team seized the goods and framed seizure report against non-customs paid goods . Further proceedings against seized goods are still under process.
